Bookworm Author Series
Bookworm, the bestest bookshop in Dhaka, invited fellow traveller and art maker Abeer Y Hoque and me for their Author Series on 22nd July 2023.
Abeer has many talents including writing, photography and poetry. Abeer was born in Nigeria to Bangladeshi parents and is now based in New York City (I interviewed her in 2016 here; republished on scroll.in here).
We talked to each other about being third culture kids, belonging (or not) in this world, and using our various mediums – art, poetry, photography, memoir, fiction – to tell our stories.
We then got beautiful questions from a thoughtful audience about creativity, how to share our stories, and much much more.
We signed books! For Abeer, her incredible memoir, Olive Witch, and her poetry/photography collection, The Lovers and the Leavers. For me, my essay collection, Seeking and Belonging.
Raian Abedin wrote this lovely review of the event for the Daily Star here.
More on Abeer on her website.
